My Rant For the Day

Hello my friends and welcome. My name is Erika and I am not a perfect parent. I have lost my temper, I have yelled at my kids, I have said things that I have had to apologize for later. None of these things make me an unfit mother. None of these things have ever gotten me reported to CPS or the Phoenix Police Department.

The cover of In Touch weekly features Kate Gosselin spanking her daughter once, on the butt, with the palm of her hand. SERIOUSLY? The front page of a magazine? I do not advocate spanking. I don't spank my kids but it's my own personal decision for my own personal reasons just like I'm sure all of you have your own personal reasons for the way you discipline your children. Having said that, spanking is not against the law, so please explain to me why the cover of In Touch magazine made it a point of letting the entire world know that Kate Gosselin was caught spanking her daughter and the police arrived minutes later? The police department went on the record to say that they arrived at the house because too many people were gathered outside watching. Do these people not have anything better to do with their time? Who sits in front of someone else's house watching them sit in their front yard with their children? WHO DOES THIS? Witnesses were reported as saying "The little girl grabbed her botton in pain...she was crying..." Of course she was. She got in trouble for doing something wrong. My kids burst into tears at the idea of being in trouble.

The article also goes on to say that Kate's always distracted by her phone. This accusation is accompanied by 4 photos of Kate on her cell phone or looking at her cell phone in front of her children. Again I say, SERIOUSLY?

All of you perfect parents out there, raise your hands. *crickets chirping* All of you who think you would be perfect parents and don't actually have children, all you can do is assume. People in glass houses . . .

The media needs to quit scrutinizing every move this woman makes. She's only human.

Kay, I'm done. What do you think? Am I way out of line?

  1. I wish something else would happen in CelebrityWorld so we can stop hearing about Jon and Kate forever.

I cannot believe that the media keeps reporting on the pair. Having a zillion kids and the media in your home is stressful. Guess what? They cracked. Shocking. Not.

  3. actually my sister and i had this discussion the other day 'cause she's been watching that show from the beginning. i was beyond annoyed with that magazine cover by the way (and i DONT watch the show). i asked the same question 'is spanking against the law now ?!?!?!?' if so ... one of these days they're gonna have to take me to jail 'cause i WILL slap my daughter's hand in public if she reaches for that toy after i've told her twice not to and warned her of the consequences ! whatever your preference for disipline, i've got three words for you when it comes to mine 'mind. your. business.' (that was a generic 'you' btw, i was not talking to you-eirka :D so, in closing, i don't think you're out of line either.

  4. Well, don't get me started. hehe That's all I can say. I can't stand that people don't mind their damn business. Spanking and abuse are two totally different things. And anyone who can't figure it out needs to have their head examined.

You're not out of line, Erika. People need to look at their own behavior instead of judging everyone elses.

  5. Venus, HI! I too am sick of hearing about them in the media, but Kate has my sympathy because she seems to be the only getting "abused" for lack of a better term. Thanks for stopping by.

Did you watch last night? What did you think?

  6. Hi Captain! Sometimes I wonder if it's just me. I'm glad to see that it's not.

  7. Hi Ban, I didn't think your comment was directed at me, but thanks for clearing it up anyway. I don't watch the show either. I don't think there's anything wrong with a slap on the hand and those people who do should look the other way. I think 'Mind Your Business" is very appropriate.

  8. Kira, HI! Feel free to rant. That's the topic today! :D I agree with you 100%. I imagine these magazines could make all of us "regular" people look bad if they followed us around 24/7. Geesh.

  9. there's a line from an old CSI episode that sticks with me. the mom, who was a suspect, says to katherine 'we must look like such terrible people' and kat responds 'you were being studied under a microscope, no one looks good that close up' *paraphrasing of course but you get the idea*
