Lover Avenged

Lover Avenged by JR Ward (7th book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series)

Rehvenge, owner of ZeroSum, brother of Bella, newly appointed leader of the glymera and half sympath has been asked to assassinate Wrath, the Blind King. Rehvenge has troubles of his own and has tried to stay clear of the Brotherhood. If his sympath identity was ever revealed it would mean exile to the sympath colony and death at the hands of the sympath community for being a half breed. Through all the chaos he finds Ehlena, a nurse at Haver's clinic who is free from the corruption and unscrupulous dealings that are part of his every day world. For Rehvenge, Ehlena represents all that is good, kind and decent, the kind of woman that Rehvenge knows he will never be good enough for.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I love JR Ward's work. Lover Enshrined was not my favorite BDB book; I was leary as to where this book was headed, but I preordered it anyway because I'm loyal like that. Or stupid. ANYWAY, I was not disappointed.

Lover Avenged is different from the other BDB books in the fact that this isn't just Rehvenge's story. While other BDB books covered some other information of other characters, I feel that Lover Avenged gives you not only Rehevenge's story, which is the bulk of the book, but also has a subplot for Wrath & Beth, John & Xhex and plenty of insight into the sypath society. Tohr is back and the fallen angel Lassiter, who, I believe it would make sense, is the first character is JR Ward's new series Covet: A Novel of the Fallen Angels. The book jacket says to go to her website for more information, but I couldn't find a link for it or information about it, so I just have to assume it's coming.

Overall I thought Lover Avenged was a great book, albeit a little long. JR Ward takes you deep into Rehvenge's head and you understand the why fors of his actions. Ehlena is a character equal to Rehvenge. I don't want to give too much away so we'll just leave it at that.

  3. Okay, so you liked it right?

Do you want to talk about it here or in e-mail? I'm good either way, I just don't want to throw out spoilers if you have lots of readers. *looks around* Is someone watching me?

Anyway, I thought it was a welcome step backwards for Ward. Rhev was a hero we could really fall for and Ehlena was a total sweetheart, though I'm surprised Ward didn't torture her more a la the advice given in every How To Write book out there.

I also liked that the head lesser was someone we really knew and could actively hate - though I'm not much for spending time in the head of the bad guy. I had very limited patience with it in the initial books, but in this one, I didn't mind it so much.

More to say, more to say... but I'll stop here for now.
