I know it will get better, I know it will get better

ARGH! I'm currently listening to The Scarpetta Factor by Patricia Cornwell. I love Patricia Cornwell, L O V E her. When I was working data entry full time, I believe the year was 1996, someone said, you should listen to Cruel and Unusual by Patricia Cornwell. I said, okay, thanks for the recommendation and instantly fell in love with her work. I love the reader, although I can't think of her name right now, and I love the characters. So please tell me WHY am I struggling with this particular book????

I was at work yesterday, listening to The Scarpetta Factor on my mp3 player and I got through two tracks, which was approximately 2.5 hours of listening before I had to switch it to music for a bit. There are 14 tracks for this book, each track at approximately 1.25 hours. I don't know if I can get through another 12 tracks if it doesn't get better.

Have any of you read this book? Is it worth my time? Please help me.

  1. I haven't read any Cornwall, but my sister was once a big fan. I have heard through the grapevine, however, that The Scarpetta Factor isn't her best work. So it's not just you.

I can't tell you whether it's worth powering through to the end, but I will remind you that life is too short for bad books ;)

  2. I second what Venus said. But...is the same reader doing this book? That might be the difference, if a new reader is droning on...

  3. Hey ladies, thanks for stopping by. I'm going to give this book a couple more tracks and pray that it gets better. I normally enjoy her so much that I just can't give up quite yet. I'll let you know how it goes.

  4. BTW, Silver, I don't think it is the same reader, but she's good.

  5. I've never listened to audio books-- I would really like to try it sometime. And I haven't read her, so I can't say one way or another. Life is too short for bad books, but if it's one of your fave authors, give her a longer shot. :)

  6. jumping in late here but knowing myself - I'd probably give her another shot. I've got that whole author loyalty thing going too but in the end ... Ash is right, there are too many books out there. In fact I sometimes find my desire to read falters after plugging through a bad book.
